One of the crown jewels of my collection, this 1997 Ultra Stars Gold Michael Jordan represents a pinnacle of ’90s insert collecting. Graded a pristine BGS 10 with three perfect subgrades, it’s the only example at this level (a true pop 1 ) and stands among the rarest and most visually striking Jordan inserts ever produced.
Issued during the golden era of premium inserts, the Ultra Stars Gold parallel builds on an already tough chase. The base Ultra Stars had steep 1:288 pack odds in 1997 Ultra Series 1, but only a fraction (around 10%) were given the dazzling gold foil treatment, transforming them into Ultra Stars Gold. These gold versions are estimated to fall about 1:2,880 packs, making the odds of pulling a specific player like Jordan an astronomical 1 in 57,600 packs.
The card’s full-bleed holographic gold foil and bold design perfectly encapsulate the era’s flair and scarcity. It’s widely considered one of the most condition-sensitive and coveted Jordan parallels from the decade, a piece that truly lives up to its billing as “elite of the elite.”
